Hello! By now I have met most of you, but I just wanted to introduce myself again and tell you a little bit about my life in America. In case you have forgotten, my name is Shannon, and I will be with you in the classroom until May. I am very excited to be here in Spain and work with all of you. I have picked 10 things about myself that I would like to share with you and there are also som pictures:
1) I live in New Hampshire, a state in the northern part of the USA.
2) I am 22 years old and my birthday is April 23rd.
3) I graduated from the University of Maryland in May. My school was next to Washington DC, the capital of the United States.
4) I studied Criminal Justice, and one day I want to work with young kids (juveniles) who have gotten in trouble with the law.
5) I have one older brother, Matt. He lives in Los Angeles and wants to be an actor.
6) My mom is a Spanish teacher and my dad works for a construction company.
7) I have two dogs, Riley and Bandit. One is very big and one is small, but they are best friends.
8) I love to ride horses but do not have any of my own.
9) I have 5 best friends that I have known since I was 14. They are Maria, Kelsey, Olga, Kayla, and Sam.
10) I love Spain and the people here are very nice!

I have had an incredible experience...

I have known a lot of people, I have made a lot of friends and this is my best memory...Of course this experience was good for my English because I practiced it every day.

The thing that most caught my attention was that the city was clean, there was not pollution and people were very polite, everybody followed the rules ( they were very strict).

Climate is very cold in Edinburgh and it changed very often. If you see my photos , you will see me with clothes for different seasons ( scarves or shirts, sandals or boots...)Every day it rained and this was the worst part.

I noticed that Italians have a very good level of English and I think I need more vocabulary.

This experience has increased my interest in other cultures, languages, traveling and meeting new people.

TIME EXPLORER at THE BRITISH MUSEUM

The British Museum has a section of their website dedicated to Young Explorers that is a fantastic place to find fun facts, games, pictures, and events that have to do with world history. One of the best games is Time Explorer.
Students are transported back to a period in time to recover precious artifacts while learning fun facts about the civilization they are visiting.
Some of the adventures include Ancient Rome, the Mayan pyramids at Teotihuacan or Imperial China.

DANE'S JOURNEY

When my family came to visit me in Sevilla we had a great time going out and seeing the city. My parents rented a flat in the center and we stayed there for a week. Even though it was really hot, we did a lot of sightseeing during the day and visited the Alcazar, Cathedral, several museums and walked around the entire city. We ate tapas almost every night and both my parents really enjoyed all the food they tried.

After 6 days in Seville my parents and I drove to Portugal, where we rented a flat in Algarve. My sister flew into Faro to meet us and we spent about six days on the beach there. The beaches were beautiful but the water was so cold. The weather was much cooler than it was in Spain so it was a little difficult to go swimming in the ocean but we had a nice time relaxing on the beach.

After our stay in Portugal, we flew to Marrakech in Morocco for two nights. Morocco is so much different than Spain or anywhere else I have been. It was interesting to see the culture there and all of the small streets and markets in the center of town. We spent most of our time just walking around the streets and seeing different things However, after two nights in Morocco I was ready to leave and come back home.

We flew from Morocco to Madrid to London to Denver and luckily I made it home without losing any of my luggage this time. It is nice to be home but I miss my life in Spain very much and I hope that I will be able to come back soon. I had a great time at the school getting to know all of you and I hope to stay in touch. If anyone has any questions or anything please email me.

I miss you all already and hope everyone has a good summer.

A SCHOOL YEAR WITH DANE

Times flies... That is what I feel if I remember when we began this school year, and now we are about to finish. Now it is time to say goodbye to Dane, who has been with us all these months.
Thanks Dane for your help, for being so kind ( to pronounce and repeat all the words for us), for helping us to improve our English and for being so friendly. We will miss you next year.

If you want to learn or improve a language you can use different on-line language programs but one of the best I can recommend you is LIVEMOCHA. You have to choose the language you want to practise and register. You can also use it to meet new people. Try it and tell me about your experience!!

Dane's Feria.

I spent most of the last week going to the Feria with some of my friends. I have been to the Feria once before (two years ago), but this time was amazing. I couldn't believe how big it was and how many people went every day to enjoy the Feria. I was also lucky enough to have several friends who invited me to their private casetas. The week of feria was so interesting for me because in the United States we really don't have any celebrations that are anything like that. I really liked to see all of the people dressed up as well as the horses and carriages. The Feria here in Sevilla is definitely one of my favourite things that I have done during my time here.

Dane in Budapest

Over the Semana Santa Holiday, my room mate and I travelled to Budapest, Hungary, for five days. Budapest is the capital of Hungary and it is a very interesting city to visit. There is a lot to see and do in Budapest, so my room mate and I were very busy the entire time. A few of the things that we saw and Budapest is famous for are their Turkish Baths, the Opera House, The Danube River which flows through the center of the city, and many other historical monuments. Budapest also had a very fun night life. I went to several big and really fun discos while I was there. After five days though, I was excited to get back to Sevilla and was able to see the last few days of Semana Santa.

CARNIVAL TIME

Carnival has a special significance in a country with such deep outdoor festive roots as Spain. Not as famous or televised as Rio, Venice and New Orleans, Carnival time in Spain is, together with Easter and Christmas, one of its main popular festivities, celebrated nationwide with street parades, costume balls, beauty pageants and bank holidays.

On the mainland, the Andalusian city of Cádiz hosts the most popular urban Shrovetide celebrations. Year after year, thousands of Spaniards head to the Southern capital to embrace days of music, wine drinking and laugh listening to the murgas or chirigotas, groups of witty locals who make fun of politicians and VIP's and review the prior year's happenings.

Hundreds of villages and towns all around the nation celebrate Carnival in a less flamboyant and internationalized way, like in San José de la Rinconada where my students have been at least two weeks discussing their costumes.
I was astonished to discover how wonderful and surprising some of the costumes are.

The celebration begins with a parade where groups of disguised friends walk along the main streets ending with the God and Goddess of the carnival. During the tour the costume contest starts and the winners will be announced at the end.

Hello, my name is Dane Jacobs and I am from Vail, Colorado in the United States. I just graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in International Relations and Business. I am currently living in Seville and working as an English Assistant for the school IES Carmen Laffón. I am really enjoying my time in Spain and am growing fond of the people and the culture. While I am in Seville I hope to meet new people and learn to speak Spanish. I am very outgoing and enjoy traveling and being active.
